Emotions churned in Paul’s heart, resonating in his eyes as he watched Lonny walk down the gravel path. His chest tightened with an ache that nearly crippled him.

“Lonny, babe…you’re really gonna make me work for it, ain’t ya?” he murmured.

Anything worth having is worth working for. Sound advice from a wise man. Paul’s lips twitched with a smile as he cast Lonny one last look as the boy turned down the street at the far side of the park and disappeared from view.

“A little hard work never killed anyone.” he whispered and walked to his motorcycle.
